The Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio wanted to perform a job with Latex Modified Concrete but wanted to use lightweight aggregate. Modified Concrete Suppliers was called to supply the material for this project. Using a lightweight aggregate, we developed a mix that would have a weight that was under 120 lbs/CF. We placed this lightweight LMC on a structure that the convention center used as a drop off zone for people going to the Convention Center. This structure sees a lot of car and bus traffic on a daily basis. The shape of the structure was U-shaped and this caused us to do 5 placement to complete the project. The Lightweight LMC was placed at 4 inches deep and 200 cubic yards went into this structure. The Lightweight LMC mix achieved compressive strengths of 6500 psi in 5 days and 116 lb/CF for the unit weight. The overlay looks great and will be a great lasting overlay for the City of Columbus.
