This project was one of the first times Indiana Department of Transportation has used a Very Early Strength Latex Modified Concrete in the State. VES-LMC has been used in many states since 1997 and has had great success around the country. One reason VES-LMC was used on this project was due to traffic conditions during the week. Shutting down a lane would cause extreme traffic jams impeding daily commuters. INDOT constructed a plan which consisted of work beginning Friday night to Monday morning. In this time frame three bridge decks were surface milled, hydro demolished and poured back with VES-LMC. Very Early Strength Latex Modified Concrete can achieve 3000 PSI in 3-5 hours. Once 3000 PSI is reached, traffic can be redirected onto the freshly poured overlays.
